Bruce Cook, now 28, is a freestyle motocross athlete who made his first appearance as a rookie in the Moto X Best Trick event at X Games Los Angeles 2012. Two years later, in 2014, he attempted to perform the first-ever double front flip on a motorcycle during the opening night of the 2014 Nitro Circus Live North American tour in Hamilton, Ontario. The attempt left him paralyzed.

Nitro Circus is world renowned for pushing the limits of what has ever been achieved in action sports. On a sometimes daily basis, Nitro Circus athletes perform and land world first tricks. Sometimes crashing the boundaries successfully, other times just crashing

About a year after undergoing surgery for the spinal injury that left him paralyzed, many would expect that Bruce Cook would be found anywhere but near a motocross bike. Well, let’s just say that Bruce Cook is no ordinary man.

Bruce is a man of living life to its fullest and obviously nothing can keep him from doing what he loves most. Riding his bike and performing never-before-seen first ever tricks!

What Bruce Cook did a year after his injury is a world first that will be hard, if not unlikely, to be beaten. The paraplegic athlete performed a trick that very few in the world can perform: a backflip. Only he did it whilst fully strapped on his bike, to secure his legs during the rotation. This only makes the trick even more dangerous, due to the fact that the athlete cannot bail in case something goes wrong. The courage alone needed to realize this, leaves me personally in awe.

Bruce Cook not only succeeded in his deed, but he continued touring with Nitro Circus for another 20 more shows in US in 2015. Nitro Circus CEO and a close friend of Bruce’s, Mike Porra, referred to Cook’s historic achievement as the Best Moment in Nitro Circus history.

Enjoy below Bruce Cook’s inspirational paraplegic backflip.
