Golf is a wonderful sport that brings so many benefits to the players. You get to hang out in nature with your friends and relax your whole body and mind. But as fun as golf might be, playing it well is not easy.

Even though your favorite professional players are masters of their craft, they are still regularly looking for new ways to fix their mistakes and take their game to the next level. Whether you are looking to play professionally or just trying to be more competitive with your mates, you need to get the right equipment and follow the right tips.

To help you take your game to another level, here are six simple steps to play golf like the pros.

1. Pay Attention To Your Grip

In golf, grip is extremely important because it is the key point of contact between your body, your club, and the ball. Without a comfortable grip, just swinging the club alone is already a struggle which will lead to common beginner problems like the inability to hit straight shots. In order to perfect your grip, the most important tip is to take your time. Before any shot, make sure that palms, fingers, and thumbs are in the optimal position for better coordination, and try to find the best possible angle to hold the club.

2. Choose the Right Clubs

Golf players of all levels often make the mistake of buying their clubs solely based on the brand that their favorite players use, or just choose the most expensive clubs that they can find. There is no guarantee, however, that this will lead to the best results for your game. When it comes to golf clubs, there are a ton of brands to choose from and you can look at golf club guides for some inspiration. The most important factor is choosing clubs with the optimal weight, and the only way to know for sure is to try them out. If you have friends who are golfers, ask them to lend you their clubs, and test them out for control and power potential.

3. Maintain A Balanced Stance

A good grip and a balanced stance will make for better swings, and subsequently, better shots. An unstable foundation will conversely lead to an imbalanced body and arms, and you will lose that vital connection between your club and ball. This will prevent you from being able to perform an effective swing. In order to improve your chances of hitting a powerful and accurate shot, go through a number of systematic steps to solidify your stance before committing to your swing.

4. Focus On The Ball

After you have chosen a good club and made improvements in terms of your grip and stance, it is time to take a swing. Clean contact with the ball (hitting it dead center with the club’s head) is what you are looking for, and if you are not getting the desired result, your contact is definitely off. You either need to work more on your swing, try to keep your power under control, or spend more time lining up your shot.

5. Record Your Swing And Watch It Back

In order to keep track of your progress, there is no better way than to video your entire swing process with a smartphone. When checking the video back, make sure that you pay attention to the minor details (using the frame to frame function) and identify possible mistakes that are interfering with your shot. After identifying those mistakes, drill those movements again through practice, and repeat the process until it is perfect.

6. Keep On Practicing

Any good player will tell you that the only way to become better at golf is through practice, and that means putting the work in every day. Setting up some practice apparatus in your garden is ideal, but if you are not able to do so then get to the nearest driving range or putting greens whenever you have some free time. Try to make the most out of your time by focusing on specific aspects of your game that you consider to be weak. Step by step, you will start to master each element, and when the time comes to bring it all together, you will see some major improvements.

The professional golfers that we admire all have to dedicate themselves to the game and put in the hard work come practice time, but most importantly, they are able to identify their weaknesses and work tirelessly to improve them. It all starts with having the right clubs and a stable foundation. Before making your swing, take your time to focus on the techniques that you have perfected in training, and soon enough, you will be making serious dents in your handicap.
