The one major drawback of loving extreme sports is that you just don’t always have the time to really enjoy them as much as you really want to. Work, family commitments, and life, in general, seem to (and often should) take precedence, leaving you with very little time to do anything else. This is when hobbies that you used to do most weekends, or every evening, become relegated to mere memory. If you’re lucky, you might get to play every now and then, but if you do, it will be a rarity.

That’s why extreme sports vacations are so popular. You can book a trip away (as short or as long as you need) to enjoy some of the most extreme, most adrenaline filled sports out there. Not only do you get to have fun, but you get to travel to all kinds of fascinating destinations, and because you have booked a vacation, you won’t have work or anything else to think about; this is time just for you. If you feel that this sounds ideal, here are some of the most exciting places to go and thrilling things to do when you get there.

1. Piranha Fishing In Brazil

Everyone knows that the piranha is a fish with teeth so sharp they can strip the flesh from bones in seconds. They are one of the most deadly fish in the world, but in Brazil,, you can experience what it is like to be the predator for a change. Along with expert guides, you can actually fish for piranha. Make sure you don’t come into contact with them as you reel them in because these fish will certainly put up a fight. What’s more, you will be catching these fish in order to eat them, not just for sport, and that makes the entire adventure even more worthwhile.

2. Mountain Biking In Bolivia

In Bolivia, you will find what is known as the world’s most dangerous road. This is a road that begins up in the Bolivian Andes and from there heads downwards for 40 miles until it reaches the tiny town of Coroico. This road is extremely narrow and very steep and going down it in any kind of vehicle is dangerous enough. Try it on a mountain bike, and you will be gripping the handlebars for dear life, but you’ll be grinning all the way down if this is the kind of thing that excites you. Don’t look down though, because all you’ll see off the side of this road is a long, sheer drop.

3. Skiing In Wyoming

If skiing in Wyoming doesn’t sound like much of an adventure, don’t forget that this is the home of Corbet’s Couloir in Jackson Hole. For avid extreme skiing fans, this is the piste that always makes it onto their top 10 list of places to ski before they die, and that’s because it really is a difficult, potentially dangerous, but hugely rewarding challenge. Corbet’s Couloir has a terrifying initial descent which involves leaping practically blindly over the edge of a cliff. When you get there, you’ll see crowds of people who haven’t quite plucked up the courage, or who want to watch others take the jump. They’ll be standing near the edge. Will you have the confidence to go past them and onwards (and downwards) into the unknown?

If you do take on this run make sure you know what to wear skiing for both comfort and safety because there are many rocky outcrops and boulders that could give you a nasty injury if you were to crash into them on your way down the slope.

4. Bungee Jumping In Zambia

Zambia is a beautiful country, and there is a lot to do there that is adventurous, but perhaps the most exciting thing is to bungee jump right in front of the world famous Victoria Falls. You’ll fall 365 feet down towards the Zambezi River, and you’ll go at a huge speed. It’s true that Zambia is a long way to go for a bungee jump, but when you consider that this is the highest one in the world, and just how stunning the location is, you might start thinking that booking a flight isn’t a bad idea after all.

5. White Water Rafting In Zambia

We mentioned above that there is a lot of fun things to do in Zambia, and white water rafting on the Zambezi River is another to add to the list. You can start just by Victoria Falls (perhaps after you have tried the huge bungee jump there) and then head off, thundering along in the most unique river you will ever have the privilege to raft along. The river is so powerful that it is considered by many to be too much, and some choose to stay away. If you like a challenge and you think you can take on the Zambezi then go ahead and enjoy!

6. Motor Biking In Mongolia

If you love off-roading on a motorcycle, then head to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. This is the place that is considered to have some of the very best off road motorbiking spaces in the world, so it should not be missed. You’ll have to contend with desert, mountains, rivers, grassland, and plenty of wild animals as you make the 1,243 mile trip across the Gobi Desert. It will be dusty, dirty, and dangerous, so clearly it is ideal for extreme sports enthusiasts the world over.

7. Ice Diving In Antarctica

For those who love the cold, ice diving in Antarctica could be just the vacation you are looking for. It really doesn’t get much colder than this. You can choose which depth of dive suits you, or work up from shallow dives to deeper ones once you have the confidence to do so. You will always have an experienced guide with you every step of the way, so you can enjoy the scenery and the huge variety of sea life you will encounter on your adventure including seals, whales, and penguins.
