For many people, going on vacation means resting and relaxing. It might involve sitting by the pool or on the beach, eating at fancy restaurants, and sipping cocktails in between. Although relaxing on vacation is popular with many people, that doesn’t mean it is right for everyone.

For some people, vacation is about doing the opposite! It means living life to the fullest and experiencing everything you possibly can in the area you’re visiting.

Rest assured, if you’re one of those people who prefer a little excitement during your vacation, there are plenty of options to keep you entertained, no matter where you travel.

Book a Different Kind of Entertainment

Some entertainment is meant to be relaxing. You sit in a seat while you’re entertained. If you’re looking for something a bit more exciting, you’ll need to book a different kind of show.

For example, there are a lot of great attractions in Fort Lauderdale, but if you’re looking for something exciting and entertaining, buy tickets to the Mai-Kai Polynesian Dinner Show. With fire tricks, it’s sure to satisfy your need for the extreme.

Look for events and entertainment that allow you to get involved. Look for tours that utilize amphibious boats that can go on land and water, or ghost tours that allow you to use devices to find ghouls of your own. The more interactive the entertainment, the more exciting it will be.

Head to the Nearest Theme Park

Many vacations include theme parks, and it’s easy to see why. It really is the easiest way to add a little adventure to your vacation.

If you want a more extreme experience, look carefully at what each theme park has to offer. Most offer death-defying roller coasters that will get your heart pumping, but many offer additional experiences.

Bungee jumping, slingshot rides, and zip lines are also available in many parks and require you to be a certain age, so you can bet they’re more extreme than the other rides at the park.

Rent a Bike

Love biking at home? Rent one wherever you’re traveling!

Not only is it a great way to make sure you get plenty of exercise while you’re away from home, it can also be a great way to get around wherever you happen to be vacationing.

A plain old bicycle not extreme enough for you? Consider renting a different kind of bike.

In some areas, you can rent motorized bicycles that will help you zip from place to place.

Bicycles aren’t the only bikes you can rent on vacation! Consider renting a motorcycle when hitting the road while you’re away. If you’re in the big city, you can consider a moped rental instead. There are plenty of ways to satisfy your need for cycling speed while you’re on vacation!

Head for the Water

Many vacations include the water in some form or another. If you find yourself near a large body of water, consider seeking out a watersport that appeals to you.

There are tons of watersports to choose from, and many businesses provide vacationers with the ability to experience these watersports. A few ideas for the person who wants a little excitement while they’re away from home include:

  • Jet skiing
  • Barefoot skiing
  • Snorkeling
  • Windsurfing
  • Surfing
  • Parasailing
  • And more!

Sometimes, it’s more about the water you choose than how you choose to navigate it. For example, kayaking can be quite exciting if you’re doing it on the open ocean or in the middle of the Everglades!

Spend Some Time in the Wild

Cities are built with our safety in mind. If you really want to get outside your comfort zone and have extreme experiences while you’re on vacation, spend some time in the wild.

Consider camping in the middle of nowhere, hiking in the forest, or mountain biking a trail in a large national park. There are a lot of ways to elevate your heart rate while experiencing new sights and sounds, no matter where you are.

Just make sure you tell at least one person where you’re going. You don’t want to be that person who ends up lost in the woods with no cell service!

There’s nothing wrong with kicking back and relaxing while you’re on vacation, but don’t let life pass you by while you’re away from home. Get your heart pumping and experience everything life has to offer by getting outside your comfort zone and trying one of the things on this list.
