Spoils Beach is located on the north of the Port Everglades inlet, one of the busiest cruise ports in the world and it is the southern end of Port Lauderdale’s long sandy beach. For those who are into surfing, Spoils is a unique spot. Despite the fact that the area is located outside the tropics, it features a tropical rain forest climate with hot and humid summers with an average temperature of 86–90°F (30–32°C) and warm and dry winters with an average temperature of 75–82°F (24–28°C).
The quality of the wave is normal, occasionally barreling, with fast and powerful speed, taking both left and right directions, while the size of the swell starts working from 1.5 m/5 ft and holds up to 2 m/6 ft and more. The best wind direction is when coming from northwest, west and the best tide position is mid and high tide, best surfed after a hurricane when the winds brow from offshore.
Surfing in Spoils is suitable for experienced surfers only. When the hurricane season begins from June until the end of November, Fort Lauderdale is affected usually on September and October and provides extreme surfing conditions for advanced surfers. Surfers should be careful of rocks, rip currents and boats. Note that when the tide is low, it gets very shallow.
