Aoos river springs from the area of the picturesque village of Vovousa, crosses the homonymous canyon and the Vikos-Aoos National Park, one of the UNESCO Geoparks and flows into Albania. The region is an unspoiled paradise for nature lovers and sport enthusiasts, providing a wide variety of outdoor activities. There are many routes with different levels of difficulty, according to your skills and experience. The most common route here, is at the point where Aoos meets Voidomatis. It is considered to be an easy one, especially for beginners. The length of the route is 6 km/3.7 mi long, it lasts about one and a half hours and takes you through a serene dense plantation, where you can see rare bird species nesting on pine trees, wild boars, deer and numerous fish.
A more demanding route, that is considered ideal for experienced rafters begins at the upper section of the river. In that section, the water as coming out of Aoos canyon is mostly foaming and wild. Note that, the best periods for rafting in Aoos river is during spring and autumn months, depending on the river flow and weather conditions. Nevertheless, there are routes that can be performed throughout the year. Finally, do not forget to try the famous pies made from pure, local products!!!
