Vall de Nuria (The Valley of Núria) is a south opening valley, coming down from the crest of the Pyrenees within the municipality of Queralbs, province of Girona. According to legends, Saint Giles hid in a nearby cave a holy image of the Virgin. Vall de Nuria ski resort is accessible by the rack railway, or by foot.
Temperatures vary from 8°C/46.40°F to 24°C/75.20°F with January being the coldest month and July the warmest. Lowest altitude is at 1964 m/6443 ft and highest one is at 2252 m/7388 ft. A famous “experts only” 12 hour trail is from Nuria to Santa Llocaia. It’s a 65 km/40mi route with a 2950m elevation gain uphill and 2848 m/9343 ft downhill. Max elevation is at 2600 m/8530 ft. It passes by Fontalba, Dead mans source, Neck barracks, Dorr, Col de la Cruz Mejan and Ojelo.
