Sugar Bowl ski resort is a ski area in northern Placer County, near Norden, along Donner Pass of Sierra Nevada, at about 46 mi/74 km from Reno on Interstate 80, California, USA. The resort was opened on the 15th of December 1939.

In the north, there is Lake Van Norden, North Tahoe Home of Sierra Snowkite Center. It is the perfect place for snow-kiting. You can snow-kite there, regardless your level. Van Norden is a kind of straight forward snowkite location at an elevation of 6772 ft/2064 m.

There are over 2 mi²/5.1 km² of wide open. This spot can accommodate over 100 kiters at any time and offers some of the best winds. There are all wind directions, west, southwest, northwest and east and all of them very good. Forecast is over 10 mph/16 kph in any direction.

Launch is made in a wide open snowy meadow with an alpine lake. KGB and SSC have worked together to provide snow-kiting services in the Tahoe Area. SSC area has great snow coverage with built features, wide open terrain, creek crossing and groomed launch area.

If you get tired, you can always enjoy a hot cup of chocolate at a warm hut located nearby. This area is a government property, privately leased to Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge, so if you want to have fun at this spot, a season pass and a brief safety assessment are required.
