North West is a province in the northern part of South Africa, on the Botswana border and fringed by Kalahari desert to the west, Gauteng province to the east and Free State to the South. Home to the Sun City, it attracts both locals and tourists all year round and has a great deal to offer. It is peaceful and offers a sunny climate all year through, making for a most rewarding holiday experience.
Otters’ MTB trail offers a number of routes with various level of difficulties and distance. Some of these routes are closed to the public but you can get access via Otters’ Haunt, although in some cases, this is on guided trails only. The spot is a paradise for mountain bikers and level of difficulty is rated as intermediate.
The annual Crater Cruise around the Vredefort Dome is one of the best mountain-biking races in South Africa. Trail-wise, there is something to suit every level of fitness and interest, from competitive trainers to family outriders with the kids. The trail head is at Otters’s Haunt and the terrain mainly consists of gravel district roads, game paths, single track and some tarmac. Most of the routes last between 1-3 hours.
