Near Lewis Center lies one beautiful lake, the Alum Creek Lake, situated inside a wonderful park, the Alum Creek State Park. The lake is an ideal place for those who love water sports and especially wind surfing.
This sport is all about the wind and the best wind direction at this lake comes from northeast, providing relative side on-shore winds. Its main wind direction is southwest, blowing with a medium force. Type of wind is thermal, which is very strong in summer, making the spot unsuitable for wind surfing.
Best season to use your board is spring and fall. The beach is public and accessible to everyone, easy to find and not far away from the city. Although it is mostly suitable for novices, the area is also excellent for freeride and freestyle wind surfing, attracting a lot of pros, trying to improve their skills or show off a little and enjoy a nice session on the waves.
The water is murky with no currents and you will find a sandy bottom with rocks. Every day of the week, the spot is mostly empty, as there are only a few water sport fans, so you have almost the entire lake for yourself! Be cautious of other water crafts though. It is an excellent spot with great wind, thermals and little crowd, so it is in your best interest to try it!
