Pedra Branca, Ericeira

The spot is located in Ericeira, in the municipality of Mafra, in Portugal. It’s a rocky reef with epic waves. They are powerful, hollow and fast, with left direction. After the  swell starts working, at 1.5 m-2 m /5 ft-6 ft and holds up to 3 m+ / 10 ft+, these are the best waves in Portugal. The west, southwest and south swell direction is the best.

For the wind, the southeast, east and northeast direction is the best. In spring, at 11% of the time the waves swell size is from 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) and the wind blows offshore at 6%. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 0,3% and most of the time we have no swell, only at 3% of the time we have waves with swell size from 0.5  to 2 m (1.5-6.5 ft). In autumn, at 7% of the time the waves swell size is from 2 to 3 m (6.5-10 ft) and the wind blows offshore at 6%. In winter, the wind blows offshore at 12% and at 13% of the time, the swell size is from 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft).

There are bodyboard schools, with experts at your disposal, in case you need someone to show you what the adrenaline explosion means. If you like the fresh fish, Ericeira is the best place to taste seafood. Walk through the cobbled streets and enjoy the sunshine and the warm climate. You can admire the old buildings, full of history and visit the museum, the municipal library and the cultural center.
