Paphos is gifted with a Subtropical Mediterranean climate with warm and rainy winters and an average temperature at 12°C/54°F and hot and humid summers, with an average temperature at 32°C/89°F with frequent heatwaves in July and August.
There is a wide variety of water sports available to be performed on the spot, as Paphos is surrounded by the sea, hosting amazing sandy beaches with the clearest waters. Undoubtedly, scuba diving is definitely one of the favorite activities for both locals and visitors.
One of the many interesting sites for diving, is the Achilleas Wreck. Situated on the sandy bottom of the sea at a maximum depth of 39.4 ft/8 m, it is a popular spot for divers of all skill levels. Achilleas was a Greek cargo ship of 173 ft/53 m long, that sunk in 1975 after a mysterious explosion on board. The bulk and the big bronze propeller are still intact while marine life has taken over most of the remains of the ship.
Achilleas wreck is easily approached by boat from the city’s harbor and due to its shallow location, it offers excellent visibility and lots of sunlight. You can dive this spot all year round and it is best to book an organized tour or a local guide in order to find the exact diving location. Divers should be careful of sea currents.
