Hydro Atlantic Wreck was a ship built in 1905 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and sunk in 1987 on it’s current location, after a strong tropical storm. It is considered to be one of the top ten wreck sites for diving in the USA and is a truly amazing experience, suitable for advanced divers only.
The hull of the ship is 300.8 ft/91.6 m long with a 64 ft/19.5 m beam, standing at a depth of 172 ft/52.4 m deep down on the sandy bottom of the Gulf Stream. With low currents and good visibility, this deep water dive is extraordinary and the wreck is almost intact with most of its equipment being still in place.
As it is covered with many colorful corals, it attracts a wide variety of fish of all shapes and sizes. The Hydro Atlantic is a true wreck and offers an abundance of biodiversity and many opportunities to penetrate and explore the inner hull. Definitely one of the best diving spots in Florida.
