Technical Challenges:
Minimum to most routes
Mount Shasta is located in northern California, east of Interstate 5 along SR89, between Mount Shasta city and McCloud city, California, USA.
Mount Shasta is inside Shasta – Trinity National Forest and the second highest volcano in the Cascade Range. Rock climbing in Mount Shasta area is a mental, physical and technical challenge. If you are motivated for the specific event, in a good physical condition and well trained for climbing, you are in the right place.
Choose an appropriate climb for your skills and go for it. Technical challenges are minimal on most routes. North side routes include Whitney Glacier, the longest glacier in California, West Bolam Glacier, the easiest glacier, East Bolam Glacier and Bollam gully, a difficult route.
East Side routes include Hotlum – Wintum Ridge, the most scenic climb on Mt Shasta, Ash Creek – Wintum Glacier, a difficult route and Clear Creek, an easy climb. Southwest side routes include Konwakiton Glacier from East, one of the most difficult routes in Mount Shasta, Konwakiton Glacier from South, Sargents Ridge, Green Butte Ridge, West Face Gully, not commonly used and Cascade Gulch to Shastina.
