Sunshine Coast is situated between Port Elizabeth and East London in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Beset with countless little villages with access to the beach, it's a holiday maker's dream destination. All these little villages offer access to the beach, lagoons and trails to explore. The climate here is sub-tropical with winters at 21°C/69.80°F while summers get up to 30°C/86°F.
Sunshine coast boasts surroundings that offer amazing outdoor adventures. Rock climbing at the Sunshine coast is at the extensive crags of Van Staden River Gorge.
The spot has up to 154 sport routes ranging from grade 17-34. Climbing here is mostly on overhanging quartzite and although there is not much for the novice, there are several classics at 21-25 grade.
Due to the fact that the crags are sheltered, climbing is an all year round activity even during the rainy season, however exceptions are on extremely rainy days. The spot is within Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality and a permit is required to enter and the permit is free. During summer time, the routes are shaded by 1pm while in winter it is sunny all day.
