Wenatchee is the largest city of Chelan County, located in North Central Washington and lies on the west side of the Columbia River. The city is also known as the Apple Capital of the world, due to the valley's many apple cultivations.

Colchuck Balanced Rock is located above the Colchuck Lake, at the Eastern end of the Stuart Range. In order to approach the Tempest Route, follow the Aasgard Pass until you get at 400 ft/120 m above the lake and hike through the dense bushes towards the gully.

The top elevation of the rock is at 8200 ft/2499 m, suitable for climbing from June to September. The skill level required for this climb is grade IV, class 5,11, perfect for traditional rock climbing. The granite rock offers a nice and difficult crack climb on a steep wall with ten pitches. The Tempest route starts lower from the West Face Route.

It is a great alpine rock climb, but it is loose in some sections. Once you reach the top, you can admire the amazing views of the Alpine Lakes and the surrounding summits. To descent, use the trees as anchors and rappel the route. Colchuck Balanced Rock is an amazing and rewarding experience for rock climbers. You will need a double rack, cams, nuts and a 60 m/196 ft rope with you.
