Mark Occhilupo, the famous professional surfer and world champion made Cronulla beach a famous surf spot. Sandshoes is a surf spot near the entrance of the Port Hacking estuary. The spot is an exposed reef break that offers a very consistent surfing experience. Surfers can explore the waves with swell sizes from less than 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 2.5 m/8 ft.
You are able to surf in almost any wind direction, but the ideal wind direction is from the southwest, west and the best swell direction is from the east, northeast. Sandshoes is suitable for more experienced surfers. The best tide movement is rising tides and the ideal tide position is mid and high tide.
This spot is usually uncrowded, so it is a good choice for surfers who hate beach crowds. Apart from surfing, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the sea in one of the many restaurants and cafes that lie on the streets around the surf site. Note: watch out for rocks and rips.
