Taking its name after the Dutch, meaning “Happy River”, Blyde River is South Africa’s national treasure, permeated between high cliffs and vast vegetation. It is the third biggest canyon and the largest vegetated canyon in the world, offering a stunning white water rafting experience. The river has steep gradients with rapids ranging from steep long drops to technical rapids.
Level of difficulty here is hard with grade 3-4 rapids. The paddling area covers a distance of 8 km/5 mi and a 5 km/3 mi boat cruise over dam. This intense adventure lasts a whole day and in some cases overnight with the minimum age restriction set at 16 years old for practitioners. Advance booking is necessary with a minimum pax of 6.
