Hilo hosts its own international airport right outside the city, at about 10 minutes away by car, with unfortunately no public transportation available from the airport. Richardson’s beach is considered to be a good diving spot for all divers, with medium visibility and interesting marine life to be observed and admired, since it is a rocky cove with nice corals and fishes and if you are lucky enough, you can come along some sea turtles.
The average depth is 10 m / 32.8 ft inside fringing rocks with low current and 42 m/140 ft plus outside. Divers should be careful of the North swell, extreme depth and sea currents outside the rocks.
