Glenorchy is a small settlement, situated in Otago region, in the South Island, New Zealand. It lies on the northern side of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by Richardson and Humboltd Ranges.

It is located at 44 km/27 mi from Queenstown (a breathtaking, scenic drive) and consists the gateway to Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks. Glenorchy and the surrounding area was the setting for the legendary films Lord of the Rings and X-Men Origins.

One of the best and most challenging ways to explore the wider area of Glenorchy is trekking. Immerse yourself in the trekking adventure, feel the thrill of your personal effort and cover miles and miles discovering the rare and wild beauty of the surrounding valleys, mountains, lakes and forests!

Earnslaw Burn, Glacier Burn, Kea Basin and Mount Earnslaw, Lake Rere and Sugarloaf/Rockburn Tracks are undoubtedly the most famous and rewarding ones. Some of the tracks require good trekking skills.
