Situated on the head of the Baltoro Glacier, right at the end of one of the worlds most famous mountain peaks, Gasherbrum stands there as the heaviest and most remote concentration of high peaks on the planet.
As a part of Gasherbrum group, Gasherbrum II (G2) is the world’s 13th highest mountain.
It is generally regarded as one of the most accessible and straight – forward spots of the 14 mountains that climbers meet on the normal route. If you are prepared and sufficiently resourced, enjoy some reasonable summit rates in clement weather. It belongs of course to one of the 8000 m/26246 ft altitude peeks and as such attracts dozens of climbers every year.
In 2004, 38 summiters of multiple nationalities lived the dream after a small weather window opened near the season end. The southwest ridge is the route of choice. It is relatively free of objective dangers.
In order to climb in Gasherbrum II, you will need a fierce determination, an ability to deal with “expedition downtime”, outstanding stamina, lethargy, cold lonely nights, apathy and boredom on the glacier.
Generally you will need about 55 days to climb this mountain once you arrive in Islamabad. The local schools will help you by organizing the amazing adventure safely and in the most fun way.
