While heading for Santa Cruz, just about 2-3 km/1.5 – 1.1 mi before you meet an awesome beach, the Praia Azul beach. Signs all over will direct you to the beach.
Don’t get fooled by the signs though, as they say 100 m/328 ft away, but it is more than 2 km/1.5 mi! The beach is very long with many breaks along the way. It is difficult to say which is the best one, as they change every year.
The normal wave quality is suitable for all levels of surfers. The wave type is beach-break and the waves have amazing right and left direction. The spot is very consistent especially in summer and if it’s not quite working there, chances are it’s not working anywhere.
The waves are hollow, fast, powerful and ordinary. On normal days the wave length is short up to 50 m/164 ft, while on good days it can reach up to 150 m/492 ft. The best swell direction comes from the north and northwest and the swell starts working at less than 1 m/3 ft. The wind direction that better serves the spot is southeast and east.
The place is empty all week, so you can enjoy these waves on your own. Dangers include rips and undertow. Praia Azul is a place, where you can experience a nice surfing session!!!
