Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong. As the beach is very wide and sandy, there are many spots where you can safely launch your kite. The best season to visit is from October to April, when the Venturi winds come down from the mountains and offer ideal offshore wind conditions for speed and freeride kite surfing. Suitable for all skill levels, Cheung Sha Beach is perfect for beginners and those who wish to brush up their skills.
There is a school located on the beach, where you can arrange lessons and rent gear. The beach is empty during weekends. However it gets ultra crowded on Sundays. Kitesurfers should be careful of other water crafts and rocks. If you choose to kite on Cheung Sha Beach during winter, be very well prepared in regards of gear, because the water can get very cold.
