Buxton is a lovely spa-town, located in Peak District, about an hour drive from Manchester. It has the highest elevation compared to other surrounding towns, with daytime temperature around 2°C/35.6°F lower than Manchester. Shining Tor is situated close to Buxton and is a popular paragliding spot.
If you are a nature lover and at the same time wishing to feel the adrenaline rush, then you should visit this place! The take off altitude is at 533 m/1748.2 ft above sea level and the take off point is found at 53°15’28” (53.258)N; 2°0’34” (2.0095)W. In addition, the wind direction is coming from the west.
Keep in mind that the site is open to Peak Soaring Association and its club members. So, if you want to practice paragliding from Shining Tor, it is advisable to first contact the club. There are paragliding schools and centers with qualified instructors, willing to teach you everything you need to know about your favorite sport. Finally, the ideal periods for paragliding are during spring and summer months.
