Methven has hot and dry summers, with temperatures that can reach up to 30°C/86°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls in the surrounding mountains. Although during summer it remains a relaxed and uncrowded town, during winter it is converted to a tourist attraction due to the nearby ski fields.
One of the best free ride/downhill mountain bike sites in Methven is Mt Hutt Bike Park (15 min from the center of the town). It has a great variety of trails you can choose from, depending on your cycling skills (intermediate: Blues, Fuzz; hard: DHNZ, Diggler, Sluka Feta; expert: Pinky, Black Panther, Root Fest), as well as several downhill trails that run up to 6 km/3.7 mi (in total 15 km/9.3 mi).
