Astun is located in the source of Aragon river, in the Pyrenees mountains near the borders of Spain with France. The station occupies two high mountain valleys, La Raca and Truchas each of which is accessible by a chairlift. The temperature varies from 2°C/35.60°F to 19°C/66.20°F throughout the year, with January being the coldest and August the warmest month. It is an ideal spot for many activities and excursions all around the year.

Astun offers many ice climbing trails through snow covered mountains and beautiful scenery, both for beginners and experienced adventurers. The main trail takes you through Pic de Moines, Pic Astun, Ibon of Escalar and it is about 8 km/5 mi in length, with a maximum height of 2350 m/7709 ft and a lowest of 1756 m/5761 ft. There are even trails that lead into the French Pyrenees mountains and the local schools organize such excursions.

The best time of the year to visit is during the winter months, from December to February, as this is the time during which most trails have snow and ice. There are training professionals that know the area very well, offering family or group trips to the natural environment of Astun.
