Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites and a plethora of excellent dive spots all along this section. Portsea Reef is a nice shore dive at the west side of Portsea Pier. The average depth here is at 5 m/16.4 ft and the maximum is at 8 m/26.2 ft. Visibility is medium and varies from 5 m/16.4 ft to 10 m/32.8 ft.
Portsea Reef is suitable for novice and advanced divers alike. In addition, you will most likely encounter old wives, leather jackets, lobsters, large sweeps and small cat sharks to name just a few. It is also a great night dive site. Finally, apart from scuba diving, you can also explore the peninsula which is famous for the variety of beaches, the wineries and the mazes. Note: watch out for boat traffic.
South Head is the southern headland of the entrance to Sydney's Harbor, at the north of the suburb of Watsons Bay. Hornby Lighthouse, the third oldest lighthouse in New South Wales, is located in South Head.
