The Leap is another great shore dive in the Kurnell National Park, between the Steps and Cape Solander. To reach the dive site, find the small parking area on the right side of the road, after the Steps car park. The average depth here is at 18 m/59.1 ft and the maximum depth is at 22 m/72.2 ft.
Visibility is good and ranges from 1o m/32.8 ft to 30 m/98.4 ft long. Water temperature is up to 21°C/69.8°F in summer and early autumn months and between 14-18°C/57.2-64.4°F in winter.
The dive site is suitable for more experienced divers. The ideal time to dive this spot is on an incoming tide. The marine life is abundant with lots of weedy sea dragons amongst the kelp, giant cuttlefish, octopus, southern calamari, moray eel, blue groper, eagle rays, Port Jackson shark, schools of yellowtail, catfish as well as a wide range of nudibranch. It is a crowded spot, especially during weekends.
Last but not least, you are required to pay an entry fee to the park. Note: be careful of other divers, boat traffic and the path down the cliff.
