Kona International Airport is located at fifteen minutes in the south of the main town. Along the sea side, there are shops and schools to buy or rent diving gear, as well as take lessons if you are a beginner.
However, Old Kona Airport Beach is not recommended for beginners. It is a very exciting spot for scuba diving with an average depth of 8 m/26.2 ft and maximum depth 15 m/49 ft.
The bio-diversity of the bottom is outstanding. The sea is reef coral with medium current and excellent visibility. You will come across lobsters, coral reefs, colored tropical fish and lava tubes. Divers should be careful of sea currents, boat traffic and dangerous species.
