Peel Fjord is one of the most visited parts of the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, which is accessible only by boats or kayaks. It is located at 174 mi/280 km northern of Puerto Natales and the only way to get there is with an organized tour. The kayak adventure starts by taking a boat from Puerto Natales. Once you get there, you will have the opportunity to visit many amazing glaciers. From the east side of Peel Fjord, there are three more side fjords, called Amalia, Asia and Calvo.
The area hosts one of the biggest concentration of glaciers in Patagonia and because of the difficult approach, it has remained unspoiled and rich in wildlife. Kayaking there is certainly a one’s in a lifetime experience. The nature around you is overwhelming with outstanding ecosystems, different landscapes and rare flora and fauna, found nowhere else on the planet. In every step you take, the views of this dramatic land take your breath away.
You can kayak the fjord all year round, but the best time to visit Torres del Paine is between November and February. Be very well prepared in regards with gear, food and clothing because the weather is unpredictable with high winds, rain showers, long hot days during summer, snow and everything else you may think of. Wind proof layers are the key.
