Pokhara is the third largest city of Nepal and its location is usually referred the one city being close to the heart of the country. North of Pokhara and at about 200 km/124.4 mi west of the capital city of Kathmandu, lies the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.
The trek is considered to be the most popular short trek to the Annapurnas. The spectacular mountain scenery along with beautiful traditional Gurung and Magar villages, dense forests and breathtaking views of mountains like Machhapuchhre and Annapurna justify the popularity of the spot.
The trek is relatively easy and involves no high climbing abilities. The trekking starts along the way of the Madi Khola to the forests of Oak and Rhododendron. The ideal periods to trek in this area is between September to December and February to May.
For those wishing to explore the natural beauties, this journey will definitely reward them in each and every step. The highest point of the trek is at 3210 m/10528 ft height, at Poon hill from where you can see the most amazing view of White Mountains and the great landscape.
