Pokhara is the third largest city of Nepal and its location is usually referred the one city being close to the heart of the country. North of Pokhara and at about 200 km/124.4 mi west of the capital city of Kathmandu, lies the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.

The trek is considered to be the most popular short trek to the Annapurnas. The spectacular mountain scenery along with beautiful traditional Gurung and Magar villages, dense forests and breathtaking views of mountains like Machhapuchhre and Annapurna justify the popularity of the spot.

The trek is relatively easy and involves no high climbing abilities. The trekking starts along the way of the Madi Khola to the forests of Oak and Rhododendron. The ideal periods to trek in this area is between September to December and February to May.
