The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory, situated northwest of Jamaica and south of Cuba, in the western Caribbean Sea. The territory consists of three islands, the Grand Cayman, the Cayman Brac and the Little Cayman. George Town is the capital, located on Grand Cayman, the largest of the three islands. All of the islands enjoy a tropical marine climate, with hot summers and dry, cool winters.
This tropical paradise provides a variety of sporting activities to all water enthusiasts. Barkers is considered to be the kitesurfing capital of the island. This long stretch of white sand is teeming with kiters of all ages and experience levels.
The beach is situated within the Grand Cayman Nature Reserve, on the northwestern side of the island. The ideal period for kitesurfing here is from November through April, when the average temperature is 75°F/23.9°C. In addition, constant winds blow between 15 to 20 knots/27.80 to 37 kph. The site accommodates northeast winds and mainly side-onshore winds.
If you don’t have previous experience or wish to brush up your skills, then you should visit the kite-surfing school that is located on spot. Apart from kitesurfing, a good idea, especially for culture lovers, is a trip to the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, an amazing museum that is located only a short distance from the beach.
