Whiteface Mountain is the fifth highest mountain in New York and one of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Its summit offers breathtaking view of the Adirondacks and on clear days you can also see the skyscrapers of Montreal and enjoy glimpses of Vermont.
Whiteface resort is located in the town of Wilmington, approximately 13 mi (21 km) far from Lake Placid. The resort offers a vertical drop of 3430 ft (1045 m), a top elevation of 4650 ft (1417 m) and a base elevation of 1220 ft (372 m). The spot provides to visitors winter and summer activities as well. If you get to Whiteface resort during summer, don’t miss to exercise one of the most impressive activities. Mountain biking!
The park offers 17 single-track trails, 1 double track, 5 ski trails and 4 service roads. Whiteface is well-known for the greatest vertical drop in the East. So, you have as much space as you need to roll here. A beautiful ride in the Cloudsplitter Gondola from the summit of Little Whiteface will lead you to expert’s trails. There are totally 27 different trails that range from hardcore expert only downhillers, to cruisers and to winding cross-country paths. Be aware that helmets, big bikes and full pads are strictly required. There are also a lot of tight turns, big rocks and steep drops.
Furthermore, a shuttle bus, which runs twice an hour, is available to take you and your bike from the base up to drop off, where you can choose from a variety of trails that best suit your ability. The appropriate season to perform mountain biking is from June to October.
