Hong Kong or else the "Asia's World City" is a unique city, located on the south coast of China and enclosed by the South China Sea and the Pearl River Delta. Build on the fountains of an ancient civilisation and influenced by the west culture, as it was until recently a British colony, Hong Kong is an amazing intersection of cultures, modern architecture, fine dining and vibrant art events, as well as one of the world's leading financial centers.

Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong. As it is mainly mountainous, covered with indigenous forest, it is home to the largest nature park in the area and attracts the nature enthusiasts, offering a wide variety of activities. One of the most known beaches on the island for kite boarding is Shui Hau Wan Beach.

The beach is a small bay with shallow water and during high tide you can walk for 820 ft/250 m or more upwind. The best wind direction is when coming from East and Northeast and the best season is either in Spring or Autumn. The climate in the area is humid subtropical and is influenced by the monsoons providing hot, humid summers with frequent thunderstorms and typhoons, while the temperature exceeds 30 °C/86 °F during the day. Winters are cool and mild with an average temperature of 19 °C/66 °F.

Shui Hau Wan Beach is ideal for beginners and is mainly used for kite boarding, as the water is choppy to flat and cloudy and thus only few swimmers show up. There are schools operating on the spot, where you can arrange lessons, as well as gear rentals and showers.

Note that there are corals and rocks in the sea, so it is best to wear booties. Kite boarding is a relatively new and up coming activity in Hong Kong with many potentials. So if you are planning to visit the city, take a break and enjoy a great day kite boarding at Shui Hau Wan Beach.
