Manchester is a vibrant city, located in Greater Manchester, England. The climate here is classified as a temperate maritime climate, like much of the British Isles, with cold winters and warm summers. Manchester is noted as much for its historical buildings, theaters, music scenes and attractions, as for its sports and leisure activities.

Castleton is a beautiful village in the Derbyshire Peak District, about an hour drive from Manchester. The village nestles between the Dark Peak and the White Peak. On a good day, you can see a number of paragliders and hand-gliders in the sky of Castleton, as there are many interesting paragliding locations close to the village. Mam Tor is the most popular local centre for paragliding and hang gliding. It is a 517 m/1.696 ft hill, located close to Castleton.

The spot takes almost any wind direction, but the best wind directions are from the south, southeast and northwest. The take off altitude is at 493 m/1617 ft above sea level and the take off point is found at 53°20’58” (53.3496)N; 1°48’35” (1.8099)W. In addition, the landing point is found at 53°20’40” (53.3445)N; 1°47’24” (1.79)W, at an elevation of 217 m/711.8 ft.

Once in the air, you can glide around for a long time and admire the panoramic view of the picturesque village and Hope Valley. The location is crowded with adventure lovers all year long, but the best periods to visit are during spring and summer months. Last but not least, Mam Tor is suitable for advanced pilots.
