Situated in the Kinabalu National Park, Mount Kinabalu is one of the tallest mountains in South East Asia. It is in the Sabah Province in the Malaysian Borneo. It is one of the easiest peaks in the world to challenge hence even people with no climbing experience can easily combat the mountain, as long as you are of reasonable fitness and the will power. Standing at 4095 m/13425 ft, it takes only 2 days to ascend and descend and offers an out of the world panorama at sunrise.
This jewel of Malaysia is very popular with tourists and promises a scenic climb altogether. There are two different start routes, the first one is at the park’s headquarters but that means you will have to hike to Timpohon Shelter but it is not the recommended route. The other route is taking the bus to Timpohon Shelter and this is the recommended route which most climbers use. Mount Kinabalu also hosts the annual speed climbing competition whose record and one of the record holders is Agusti Roc Amador of Spain who did the whole climb within an astonishing time of 2 hours 44 minutes!!
