Altona is a western suburb of Melbourne at about 13 km/8 mi in the southwest of Melbourne’s CBD (Central Business District). Altona beach is an exposed beach break that provides with the right conditions for kite-surf. It is a popular kitesurfing spot, especially during summer due to the flat water at high tide.
The ideal area to launch is at the east end of the beach. The swell size starts working at less than 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 1 m/3 ft. The wind direction is from the southeast, southwest and south. The location is appropriate for beginners and advanced kiters alike. Altona beach is ultra crowded during weekends.
