Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites all along this section. Balnarring Point is a reef break, close to a well-known surf break, Point Leo. Here you can explore the waves with swell sizes from 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 2 m/6 ft.
Offshore winds blow from the northwest and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest, south. The ideal tide position is all tides. The spot is suitable for beginners and advanced surfers alike. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 24%, in autumn the wind blows at 45%, in winter at 58% and in spring at 39%.
Balnarring Point is a good site for surfers who prefer less crowded beaches. Keep in mind that, the best periods for waves is autumn and winter, as during summer the swell is often smaller. Last but not least, there is a great number of surf shops along the peninsula, in case you need. Note: watch out for rocks.
