Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites all along this section. Honeysuckle is an exposed reef break with very reliable conditions for surfing in an uncrowded setting. Surfers can explore the waves with swell sizes from 1.5 m-2 m/5 ft-6 ft and holds up to 5 m/16 ft.
Offshore winds blow from the northwest and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest, south. The best tide movement is rising and falling tides and the ideal tide position is mid and high tide. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 24%, in autumn the wind blows at 45%, in winter at 58% and in spring at 39%. The spot is suitable for surfers of all levels.
Keep in mind that, the best period for waves is usually in winter while during summer months the swell is often smaller. Finally, apart from surfing you can also explore the peninsula which is famous for the variety of beaches, the wineries and the mazes. Note: watch out for sharks and rocks.
