The Steps is considered to be a great shore dive spot and it is very popular among marine enthusiasts. The average depth here is at 9 m/29.5 ft and the maximum depth is at 14 m/45.9 ft. Visibility is good, especially on an incoming tide.
Water temperature is up to 21°C/69.8°F in summer and early autumn months and between 14-18°C/57.2-64.4°F in winter. The dive site is suitable for novice or advanced divers alike.
The marine life is abundant with lots of weedy sea dragons, giant cuttlefish, octopus, moray eel, blue groper, eagle rays, Port Jackson shark, nudibranch, yellowtail and cat fish to name just a few. It is a crowded spot, especially during weekends.
Last but not least, The Steps is located in the Kurnell National Park. You are required to pay an entry fee to the park. Note: be careful of snorkelers, other divers and fishing lines.
