At the south end of Newport beach, there is a broad rock platform with a salt water pool on top. At the north end of the beach, there is a headland, known as the Peak that attracts novice and advanced surfers. Newport beach is an exposed beach break that offers also good kite conditions.
The spot is appropriate for more advanced kiters due to the extremely hard launching point. The swell size starts working at 3 ft/1 m to 10 ft/3 m. Best suited to northeast and southeast winds. In summer the wind blows offshore at 15%, in autumn the wind blows at 33%, in winter at 47% and in spring at 24%.
The average water temperature is about 21°C / 69.8°F. Best months for kite-surfing are January, February, March, November and December. Note: keep a distance from surfers and flags and do not kite through groups of surf schools. Last but not least, it is not recommended for lone kite-surfing.

Lac de Monteynard-Avignonet is an artificial water reservoir, serving the Électricité de France power station of Drac Station.
