Lagos, Faro

Phoenicians and Carthaginians had visited Lagos, as the place has always had a seafaring connection. It was the base for the ‘voyages of the Discoveries’, during the 15th century. Henry the navigator has instigated  these voyages, when the wealth into the town, was based on the trade between Africa and Portugal. In the Praça Infante Dom Henrique you can find the status of prince Henry.

Follow the cobbled street and you ‘ll find the famous Lagos ‘golden church’ of St. Anthony. The entrance of the church is through the museum, and it’s worth to see both of them. In the opposite side you will find the ‘Slave Market’. It was the place where the slaves were sold, after they brought them back from the discovery voyages.

Lagos has beautiful beaches with golden sands. The waters around the place are perfect for sailing.
