Kahului is located in Maui Island in Hawaii and is the largest city of the Island. It is considered to be a shopping destination because there are several major stores and malls.
It’s also home to Kahana Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary and the Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum, dedicated to Maui’s sugar industry. Kahului’s own major airport is located in the North shore. The climate is tropical wet, but during winter is very windy and dry, ideal for water sports.
Along the sea side, there are schools and shops to buy or rent surfing gear as well as to take surfing lessons if you are a beginner. Kuau Beach is a very rocky small beach, with houses one built next to the other along the shoreline. The wind direction is coming from the southwest, south and launching can be difficult because of the shore brake and currents.
The best place to launch is a keyhole through the reef. Kuau beach is not recommended for beginners because once you get out, the waves can get big. During weekends though, this small beach is crowded. Windsurfers should be careful of rocks and sharks.
