Granite Mountain is located on the Central Cascade Mountain. The trail is 5 mi/8 km long (out and back), about eight hours hike with an elevation gain of 3750 ft/1143 m. The trail is open for snowshoeing from December through early March and is not suitable for beginners. Granite Mountain Trail is one of the most heavily traveled summit trails.
The path is steep and difficult, so a good physical condition is essential. You will walk through dark forests, alpine scenery and untracked snow. Once you reach the summit at 5629 ft/1715 m, the view of the mountains around and Evelyn Lake are breathtaking. The path is not always safe from snowdrifts, so always check the weather forecast before you choose this trail and don’t forget to take with you a map and a compass.
