Centurion is located in the middle of Sydney harbour opposite the Gap entrance. At the bottom of the sea lies the wreck of the Barque, Centurion which sank in 1887. Swimming over the spot today, you can see not a lot remainings of the ship, but masts, anchor chain and the desk frames.
The average depth of the spot is at 16 m/52.4 ft and the maximum depth is at 18 m/59 ft. Visibility is medium and varies from 10 m/32.8 ft to 20 m/65.6 ft. This spot is suitable for divers of all levels of experience. Amazing marine life can be seen here including octopus, giant cuttlefish and eels.
This dive site is one of the few where the red indian fish and the pineapple fish can be seen. Apart from diving, there is a variety of activities, attractions, restaurants and bars available along Sydney’s northern peninsula. MV Malabar is a wreck site on the northern headland of Long Bay, close to Maroubra beach. The MV Malabar that was named after a small ship in Java, sank on April 1931 when it came into a heavy fog. The wreck was inaccessible to divers for almost sixty years.
