In Trentino-South Tyrol, in north Italy, ice climbing is a seriously widespread sport activity. The Italian Alps are a natural shaped arena for the fans of ice climbing. Here, the environment offers the unique possibility to challenge you both in alpine and in water ice.

Moreover, in Trentino, you have the option to climb in one of the many artificial icy waterfalls. In Corvara, in San Martino di Castrozza, nella Valsugana, it works an excellent system of very modern facilities for ice climbing.

The biggest artificial ice climbing facilities in Europe have been constructed in Corvara, in Val Passiria where in January 2013, the ‘’Ice Fight’’ Trophy (which is a stage for the World Cup) was held. In Valle di Tures, in Alto Adige, the natural waterfall is another very demanding option.

Val Pusteria, in the north of the region, has to offer as well, very interesting options for ice climbing although it is not a very famous destination. The most challenging area is just about the Riva di Tures. Keep in mind that in Riva di Tures, the ability level must be quite high (6th level). Best period is from December till March.
