The most popular rings cross the east Adige, in the Val di Casies with more of 45 km/28 mi of trails. In the Upper Pusteria, near Passo Stalle is the starting point of a fixed annual appointment, the Pustertaler Ski Marathon. The race offers two versions, the short circuit, in freestyle, which covers 30 km/18.6 mi and starts at Dobbiaco and has ending point the Braies while the long course represents a classic style cross country skiing of 42 km/26 mi from Dobbiaco to Sesto.

Nearby, the Dolomites di Lienz host the last 40 years the long distance cross country ski competitions, such as the National Championships, some European Cup races and regional events. In Val Casies, the Gsiesertal Lauf Race, organized by European Federation of Cross Country Ski, is held on the spot during the last 30 years. In Alta Badia, in Val Gardena, the FIS OPA Continental Cup and the national Championship of long distance ski take place on an annual basis.
