Pelican State Beach is located at 21 mi/33.8 km north of Crescent City, south of Oregon border, Del Norte County, California, USA.
It is known as one of the loneliest beaches in California. It is wild and splendid, sandy beach, stranded in the woods, overwhelmed by the company of grass-tufted dunes. It is the perfect place for solitude, but serious surfers find it ideal. The solitude prevails due to the lack of facilities.
Weather is changeable and temperatures are generally mild, clothing in layers would be a good idea though. Wave quality is normal and its frequency is regular. It is appropriate for all kind of surfers. Type of the wave is beach – break and direction is right and left. Bottom of the sea is sandy.
Power of the wave is fun. Its regular length is short, up to 164 ft/50 m and on good days its length is normally 164 to 492 ft/50 to 150 m. Good swell direction is northwest, west and southwest and good wind direction is east. Swell size starts at less than 1 m/3 ft reaching up to 2 m+/6 ft+. Surfers should watch out for sharks!
