As most of the cities that are situated in Lake’s Region (Região dos Lagos), the area’s economy is mostly based on tourism. There is a number of sights that attract tourists-such as the Nossa Senhora da Guia chapel, the Nossa Senhora da Assunção church, the Feliciano Sodré bridge and the Municipal Theatre but the main attraction are Cabo Frio’s beaches that offer great chances of practising various water sports.
The most famous is Forte Beach, which is a 4 km/2 mi of white sandstrip, but there are others too, including Pero beach, Unamar beach, or Sudueste beach, 9 in total. The natural setting of the place as well as the Araruma Lake that offers constant winds to the area, establish Cabo Frio as windsurfers’ favourite spot.
