Isabela is a coastal city, located on the northwest coast of the island. It is also known as the “Garden of the Northwest”, due to the unique combination of beautiful beaches, submarine rivers, caves, a rainforest and interesting archaeological sites. Isabela is also known for its amazing surfing spots. In fact, it was the host city for two World Cup Surfing Championships in the 20th century.
The surf site offers regional classic waves and accommodates surfers of all skill levels. The swell sizes usually start from less than 1 m/3 ft and hold up to 2.5 m/8 ft. The reef break provides right hand waves. The best tide position is all tides and the ideal tide movement is rising tide. In addition, the wind blows from the south, southwest and the best swell direction is from the north, northwest.
Bear in mind that the location is usually crowded, especially during weekends. Last but not least, there are many surf schools and shops available in the area, where you can book lessons or rent gear. Note: be careful of rocks and urchins.
